05/23/03 - Day Five - Sydney, Cape Breton to Inverness, Cape Breton

Another one for Conan.

Smokey Mountain, Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This was minor snow pack compared to the two miles of eight foot deep stuff on North Mountain.

We watched this guy in action and got a good lesson in lobstering.

Just a nice scene at the park.

Heading north from the park towards Meat Cove, the northernmost point in Cape Breton.

I think the scenery is even better outside the park.

The road turns to dirt; steep, washboard, twisty and carved out of a cliff; it was giving me a fit of vertigo.

OK, this is it. The road ends at a blue house sitting right in the middle of the road. Just turn around and laugh a little.

Heading back into Meat Cove we get a different view.

Hmm. Moose antlers on a tree. Why?

Oh.

Too bad they're never open.

Looking back down at Meat Cove.

Alicia shoots Meat Cove as a bald eagle soars past.

Some welder's abandoned dream.

We bagged our limit on black flies.

A mountain in the clouds.

A mountain above the clouds.

Snow covered mountains.

A Scottish Lone Shieling; a shelter for a herdsman.

Fog rolls into a town.

The coast (Bay of St. Lawrence) is socked in with fog, but we enjoy the sun - as we did all week.

An abandoned 19th century wharf.

Old wharf iron.

Leaving Cape Breton.
