Child's Bog was logged and flooded, leaving the bottom covered with ancient, massive, old-growth stumps preserved by the oxygen-poor water. Near the shore, stumps above the water line have accumulated enough organic matter to support growth. These are unique, creatively chaotic arrangements by Mother Nature.
